Through the Garden Gate opened in 2004, but founder Sonia Cianchette’s love of plants began much earlier on her family’s potato farm in Corinna. There, she learned the essentials of growing—soil, water, and pest management—skills that would shape her lifelong career in horticulture.

In 1984, Sonia launched her first greenhouse in Warren, ME, expanding into perennials, roses, and nursery stock to support her landscaping business. After returning to her hometown in 1995, she established Through the Garden Gate on the same farm she grew up on—now a thriving family-run greenhouse and nursery.

With over 40 years of experience, Sonia offers expert landscape design services and continues to share her knowledge as a Maine Certified Landscape Professional and Nurseryman. These days, her son manages operations, while Sonia stays close to what she loves most—plants and people.
