Welcome, friends! We're so excited to officially launch the blog for Through the Garden Gate — your local greenhouse and nursery nestled right here in Corinna, Maine. Whether you’re a seasoned green thumb or just getting your hands in the soil for the first time, we’re here to grow with you.

Rooted in Family 

Through the Garden Gate first opened its doors in 2004, but our story starts long before that. Our founder, Sonia Cianchette, grew up right here on her family’s potato farm in Corinna. It was there that she learned the fundamentals of working the land — cultivating soil, managing irrigation, and identifying pests and diseases — all skills that would one day blossom into a lifelong love of horticulture.

In 1984, Sonia’s “can-do” spirit took her to Warren, Maine, where she opened her first greenhouse and expanded into perennials, roses, shrubs, and trees to supply her growing landscaping business. After returning to Corinna in 1995 to be closer to family, she officially established Through the Garden Gate in 2004, right on the farm she grew up on — and made sure all her grandchildren got a turn working there before they headed off to college!

Today, Sonia remains our matriarch. With over 40 years of hands-on experience and credentials as both a Maine Certified Nurseryman and Maine Certified Landscape Professional, she’s always nearby to answer questions, offer design advice, or (lovingly) shout a few orders. The day-to-day operations have since passed to her son, allowing Sonia more time to do what she truly loves — caring for plants and sharing her knowledge with others.

What You’ll Find  

We offer a wide variety of annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, and fruit trees — along with a selection of herbs and vegetables. Everything is planted with love and nurtured right here in our nursery by a team of experienced gardeners and plant lovers.

We’re always happy to help you choose the right plants for your space, whether you’re working with full sun, deep shade, or something in between. Our knowledgeable team can guide you in creating beautiful plant combinations that suit your style, space, and gardening goals — from colorful containers to vibrant garden beds and everything in between.

What to Expect from the Blog 

This blog will be a little slice of greenhouse life — filled with seasonal gardening tips, behind-the-scenes updates, sneak peeks at upcoming sales and workshops, and a whole lot of plant inspiration. We're also planning to share some crafty DIYs, including our hands-on workshops that bring the community together.
